Who We Are

A registered professional engineer with over 30 years experience in utility telecommunications design, strategy, advocacy, and standards development, Kathy Nelson is a respected expert in her field. She brings a breadth and depth of knowledge to support your team.

After spending 25 years as a telecommunications engineer at a large generation and transmission company in Minnesota, Kathy has since worked for a wireless manufacturing company and at a consulting firm before starting her own consulting business. Having spent the majority of her career within a utility, she understands firsthand the unique challenges utilities face and ensures their needs are always prioritized in her engagements.

Kathy also served on the board of directors for Utilities Telecommunications Council including becoming the first Chairwoman of the 75-year-old trade association and serving as Public Policy Division Chair. In these roles she focused on advocacy and became passionate about RF spectrum availability for utilities.

In addition to being a technical expert in her field, Kathy is passionate about promoting women and girls in STEM. She hosts a podcast, “Ordinarily Extraordinary - conversations with women in STEM,” and provides community for women in STEM.
